Yesterday The New York Times published an article titled "In Public School Efforts, a Common Background: Private Education." In it, Michael Winerip calls out some of the biggest names currently involved in education reform and the private schools they attended including Whitney Tilson, Davis Guggenheim, President Obama, Michelle Rhee, and Bill Gates (among others). What does this have to do with their ability to help public schools? This is certainly not even the whole lot of education reformers, what about those who didn't? Joel Klein immediately comes to mind and there are countless more. All of our school leaders are involved in reform, and they are cross sector schools. School type is not the issue of education reform. Today Andrew Rotherham, writer of the popular blog Eduwonk, calls the article "a pointless exercise in rhetoric and divisiveness that’s beneath the New York Times." The New York Times does not allow comments on its website, so its hard to say what its readers think. Tell us here.
