New Member School Spotlight: The Rosa Parks School PS 254 in Queens

In a diverse and rapidly changing world, Public School 254 Queens is dedicated to the establishment and maintenance of a learning environment that maximizes academic achievement, as well as emotional and social development. This safe, orderly, and nurturing educational environment will enable all students to enhance their unique talents and individual attributes. Parental involvement and community-based partnerships will enhance Public School 254 Queens’ ability to develop students who are problem solvers, critical and independent thinkers, and productive citizens that meet the challenges of the 21st century. PS 254 was designated as a Title I School of Distinction and in 2010, PS 254 was selected a Blue Ribbon School of Excellence. Principal Naomi Drouillard was awarded the Terrell H. Bell Leadership Award by the U.S. Department of Education in 2010, the Education Update Outstanding Educator of the Year 2011, and The Association of Black Educators of New York Educator of the Year Award in 2011. 98% all of students received a performance level of 3 or 4 on the 2009 NYS Assessment in English Language Arts and 100% received a performance level of 3 or 4 in Mathematics.
