Tis the season for giving and sharing the joys loved ones have for one another. Unfortunately, not everyone can enjoy the gift of giving. However, young children at the St. Marcus Lutheran School do not have to lose hope on this gift.
A makeshift store designed by school officials and volunteers called the "Christmas Store" allows students to choose one gift and get it wrapped for free. "The majority of our students here are in poverty level. And many of them may not even get a present, let alone get the opportunity to give a present. We wanted them to feel the love of giving," said organizer Cindy Kucera.
For this entire week, 670 students from K3 to grade 8 get the opportunity to use this store. The holiday tradition has been going on for more than eight years bringing little ones an assortment of gifts from snow globes to ornaments through the generous donations of volunteers. "They love us and they want to do special things for us. It’s just good for them and it’s good for us," said 8-year-old Brillyon Holmes.
