STC Welcomes Lawrese Brown As STC Newark Executive Director


With school year 2024-2025 off to an incredible start, including the expansion of our programming and reach throughout Newark, Schools That Can is proud to welcome back Lawrese Brown, now in the role of Executive Director of STC Newark. 


Previously, Lawrese lent her skill to STC Newark as a consultant. Schools That Can has been serving the Newark community since 2007. Now, we are excited to be combining our career readiness curriculum with career and technical student organizations and CTE advisory committees in addition to developing programming that supports students who are English language learners, and teachers who are supporting those students. 


With much growth already underway, STC is proud to have Lawrese’s vision, leadership, and commitment to career readiness in Newark. Please read on to learn more about Lawrese:


Lawrese Brown has spent the past decade revolutionizing workforce development through strengthening students and professionals' understanding of the interpersonal skills required to excel at work. A strategic partner to organizations committed to cultivating top talent, Lawrese is a coach for the Obama Foundation Voyager Scholars, for education entrepreneurs in the 4.0 Fellowship, and to dozens of clients across top companies who are committed to developing strong teams and being a strong team leader. Lawrese began her work with Schools That Can Newark in 2018, by authoring the soft-skills curriculum for their advanced manufacturing program. She facilitated Newark programs in 2021 and 2022 as well as supported National programming initiatives. Lawrese is originally from Newark, went to school in Newark, and was proud to serve as an Adjunct Professor at Rutgers School of Public Policy in 2018.


Lawrese has a Masters in Educational Leadership, Advocacy & Politics from New York University, Steinhardt's School of Human Development and a BA from Gettysburg College. She's currently completing a Masters in Public Policy from Rand Graduate School.
