The Neighborhood Academy Celebrates 10 Years

STC School The Neighborhood Academy in Pittsburgh opened its door 10 years ago to break the cycle of poverty by preparing low-income youth for higher education. The Neighborhood Academy (The Academy) exists to provide a holistic college-prep education for students in grades 8-12 who come from low income families. The Academy is dedicated to developing the minds, bodies and spirits of our student so that they might become fully productive members of our society. By so doing their students will break the cycle of generational poverty that has held them captive and deprived society of the full value of their lives. They had their first seniors graduate in 2005, and to date, they hold a 100% college acceptance rate! Read more about them on their school page. This spring they celebrated their accomplishments at their Spring Social. From the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette: "American Eagle donated its headquarters for the benefit orchestrated by Thommy Conroy and chaired by Alysia Hoyt Friday at SouthSide Works." Read more.
