Two STC Schools Win Dispelling the Myth Award

STC schools Edward W. Brooke Charter School’s Roslindale Campus and Laurel Street Elementary have won this year’s Dispelling the Myth Award. The Education Trust presented the award to the two schools plus the De Queen Elementary School today at their 2012 National Conference. This event named “Getting It Done! Raising Achievement, Closing Gaps For All,” congregates educators and supporters from across the country to engage in important tactics for closing the achievement gap. It also features remarks by U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan and a special performance by Sweet Honey In The Rock, a Grammy nominated a cappella group. The award acknowledges schools that serve largely populated schools with low-income students and students of color. “The Dispelling the Myth Award recipients offer continued proof that low-income children can achieve at very high levels when the schools they attend really focus on the achievement of every child,” said president of The Education Trust, Kati Haycock. Congratulations to the hard work, persistence and phenomenal results of these schools. Source
