Work-Based Learning Experiences

Work-Based Learning Experiences

Throughout Schools That Can programs, students embark on work-based learning experiences across diverse career pathways that prepare them for post-secondary success. In a 2020 study, the Carnegie Foundation surveyed a significant sample of parents and reported that close to 50% of parents do not believe their children are prepared for college or the work-place upon high school graduation. STC addresses this gap with work-based experiences that include:

  • Virtual or in-person mentorships in every unit

  • Career Chats

  • Career Fairs

  • Mock Interviews with Employers

  • Micro-internships

Students also have have access to micro-internships, a unique unit that includes access to multiple industry exposures. Each industry interface brings an industry professional or team of professionals into the classroom to share about their career and experience. This leads to a 1-2 week real-world work assignment that the industry professional reviews with students, acting as a guide/mentor. Students present their real-world work assignment to the “employer” for feedback and commentary at a culminating event.
